Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mommies out there!

I've had this post draft for a week now as an empty page with a title, trying to figure out what this post would become.  So here I am on the Morning of Mother Day, trying to figure it out - with my family still asleep. Isn't this the one day I am supposed to sleep in? Apparently my internal sleep clock has a mean sense of humor.

Me & Mom a long time ago

Anyway to get back to the point....

What to write for Mother's day? I keep coming back to one of my favorite songs. It always reminds me of being a mom. It could just as well apply to being a dad too and we had actually used it in our wedding for the dance with my father.  Whenever I hear this song, now that I am older think of all the things my mom did to raise us and I imagine this is how she must feel. I know, having my own daughter now, I certainly can relate to it.  For all times I rolled my eyes at my mom telling me what to do,  for all the times she told us to work harder, do our best and mind our manners,  I get it now.  Thanks Mom!

So here it is:

The One Who Knows

by Dar Williams
from the album Many Great Companions

Time it was I had a dream

You're the dream come true

If I had the world to give
I'd give it all to you

I'll take you to the mountains
I will take you to the sea

I'll show you how this life became
A miracle to me

You'll fly away

But take my hand until that day

So when they ask how far love goes

When my job's done

You'll be the one who knows

All the things you treasure most

Will be the hardest won

I will watch you struggle long

Before the answers come

But I won't make it harder
I'll be there to cheer you on

I'll shine the light that guides you down

The road you're walking on

You'll fly away

But take my hand until that day

So when they ask how far love goes

When my job's done

You'll be the one who knows

Before the mountains call to you

Before you leave this home

I want to teach your heart to trust

As I will teach my own

But sometimes I will ask the moon

Where it shined upon you last

And shake my head and laugh and say

It all went by so fast

You'll fly away

But take my hand until that day

So when they ask how far love goes

When my job's done

You'll be the one who knows

Happy Mother's Day Everyone!
